China Sanctions 14 EU Companies in Response to EU Sanctions on Chinese Firms
China announced on Friday that it is adding 14 European Union entities to its export control list, effective immediately, Global Times reported.
The announcement follows the European Union’s decision to impose its 21st round of sanctions on Russia, which included adding 14 Chinese mainland and Hong Kong enterprises to its sanctions list. In response, China Ministry of Commerce said China placed the 14 EU entities on its export control list to safeguard its national interests, citing China’s Export Control Law and its Regulations on Export Control of Dual-Use Items.
According to the China Ministry of Commerce the move is aimed at protecting national security and meeting China’s international non-proliferation commitments.
China Ministry of Commerce also said that exporters are barred from shipping dual-use items—products that can serve civilian and military purposes—to the listed entities. It also prohibits overseas organizations and individuals from transferring or providing China-origin dual-use goods to them. The ministry added that any related activities must stop immediately.
The 14 entities named are: Lafert S.p.A. and Garnet S.r.l. (Italy); Sindlhauser Materials GmbH, Rheinmetall AG, and Antraco Chemie-Handelsgesellschaft mbH (Germany); InPACT S.A., III-V LAB, and Cavok UAS (France); Vigo Photonics S.A. and Politechnika Wroclawska (Poland); IHC Merwede Holding B.V. (Netherlands); TATRA TRUCKS a.s. (Czech Republic); Opticoelectron Group (Bulgaria); and Ekspla UAB (Lithuania).
