Iran FM: US Gulf Pledge "Rhetoric and Inversion of Reality"
In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered a sharp rebuke to the joint communique published by the United States and the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council on June 25, 2026. The Ministry categorically dismissed Washington’s assertion of an “enduring US commitment” to the security of the Persian Gulf region, characterizing the claim as “hollow rhetoric and a blatant inversion of reality.”
The Ministry argued that the sustained US military presence in the region constitutes a persistent burden on local populations and remains a primary catalyst for instability and insecurity. Rather than acting as a stabilizing force, the Ministry asserted, the United States has consistently used its regional footprint to advance its own strategic objectives, often at the expense of the sovereignty and security of Gulf states.
As a concrete example of this destabilizing behavior, the Ministry pointed to the joint US-Israeli military aggression against Iran, which took place from February 28 to April 8, 2026. By doing so, the Ministry argued, Washington has demonstrated that it holds neither the security of its regional partners nor their bilateral relations with Iran in any regard.
In its latest statement, the Ministry reiterated that the use of Arab territory to launch attacks against Iran has made it unmistakably clear that the US policy is fundamentally at odds with the safety, stability, and mutual trust among regional states.
The statement also directed a formal reminder member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, urging them to uphold their obligations under international law and the principle of good neighborliness. The Iranian Foreign Ministry specifically nations “to prevent any use of their territory, airspace, or military facilities by third parties to plan, organize, support, or execute illegal actions, including acts of military aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Furthermore, the Ministry expressed “profound loathing” at the repeated fabrication of what it described as the “big lie”—a narrative, allegedly propagated by the United States and the Isreal concerning Iran’s peaceful nuclear program. Tehran dismissed these allegations as baseless and politically motivated, reaffirming that all of its nuclear activities remain within the framework of its rights and obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, the statement reaffirmed that the strait falls within Iranian and Omani territorial waters, and that shipping operations will comply strictly with Article 5 of the June 18 MoU that concluded the recent war
