Iran has announced updated navigation protocols for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz
Iran’s newly formed Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) announced a binding directive on Friday, implementing a 60-day period during which the Iranian government will waive transit fees.
According to a post on the PGSA’s X account, shipping operators are now required to submit their processing and passage requests solely through the official PGSA website (PGSA.ir) or the designated email address (info@PGSA.ir). The agency clarified that no other communication channels will be accepted, and vessels must provide “valid, accessible” contact information in their submissions.

The PGSA also introduced a mandatory 48-hour pre-arrival notification for all vessels approaching the strategic waterway to “avoid delays at the entrance or exit of the Strait.”
The directive stated, “During the 60-day period, tariffs for security, safety, and environmental services, along with related Iranian insurance costs, will not be charged to shipowners and will instead be covered by the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Additionally, the PGSA issued a strict warning about mine-affected areas, emphasizing the importance of ensuring safe passage and preventing collisions.
It further stressed that “coordination of the designated route and scheduled passage time for each vessel before proceeding toward the Strait is mandatory; failure to comply will be the responsibility of the vessel owner.”
