Iran Rejects US Response to Demands as Unconvincing

Iran’s security chief, Mohsen Rezaei, said Tuesday that Washington’s response to Tehran’s demands was unconvincing and that the United States “must fully and explicitly address Iran’s seven conditions.”

“Only in this case will the Strait of Hormuz be reopened,” Rezaei wrote on X.

His remarks came days after Iran confirmed it had reviewed a letter from U.S. Vice President JD Vance. The message was reportedly delivered to Rezaei through Qatari mediators and proposed a “framework” for direct negotiations. Vance allegedly suggested putting Iran’s peaceful nuclear program on the table from the outset, a demand Tehran has repeatedly rejected.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said last week that Tehran had no current plans to meet with U.S. officials, dismissing speculation about a diplomatic encounter as “mere media guesswork.”

Araghchi said Iran’s proposal for reopening the Strait of Hormuz remained the only viable plan on the table, while mediators continued to carry proposals between the two capitals.
