Iran Strikes U.S. Troops in Mideast, Army Says

Iran has announced retaliatory strikes against U.S. military positions in the Middle East, a move that marks a significant escalation in ongoing tensions between the two nations. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the elite branch of Iran’s armed forces, stated that the strikes were a direct response to what it described as aggressive actions by Washington.

According to a report from Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, the IRGC’s naval forces carried out the operation, targeting "the deployment sites of the US military in the region." The statement did not specify the exact locations or the extent of the damage inflicted, but it framed the strikes as a measured came shortly after the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that it had conducted a series of strikes on Iranian territory. The U.S. said its operation was a response to an attack on a commercial vessel in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil shipments. CENTCOM did not immediately comment on the subsequent Iranian strikes, nor on whether any U.S. personnel or assets were affected.
