Oil Rises 5% Following Trump’s Declaration of US as “Guardian of the Strait of Hormuz”and Iran vowed to never permit US interference

Oil prices surged nearly 5% on Monday after former President Donald Trump claimed on Truth Social that the Strait of Hormuz is open and that the U.S. is its "guardian." However, shipping and maritime tanker trackers reported only six vessels passed through the strait using the corridor designated by Iran.

Meanwhile, Brigadier General Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesman for the IRGC Central Headquarters, reiterated Iran's firm stance: "We will under no circumstances allow the United States to interfere in the management of the Strait of Hormuz." He accused the U.S. of "repeated adventurism and mischief" that have "seriously endangered regional security, international trade, and the passage of oil tankers and commercial vessels." Zolfaqari also criticized certain regional states for cooperating with Washington, warning such collaboration "increased the danger of war spreading across the entire region." He emphasized that Iran's armed forces would "firmly confront any disruption and insecurity" caused by what he called "the aggressor and pirate US military" regarding the passage of commercial ships and oil tankers outside Iran-authorized routes.
