Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Friday that Russian forces have fully secured the Luhansk People's Republic and taken complete control of the eastern Ukrainian city of Konstantinovka. Speaking at a temporary command post of the combined joint force group, Putin stated, "Units and formations are executing their tasks according to the operational plan set by the Russian General Staff. The full liberation of the Luhansk People's Republic has recently been completed." He added that operations against Ukrainian military units continue in the Donetsk People's Republic, as well as the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions reported by Tass.
Later that day, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russian troops had also seized Konstantinovka, a key stronghold in Donetsk. Putin described the capture as "of great strategic significance," noting that the city is a crucial transport hub and major industrial center in Donbas. He further stated that since the start of 2026, Russian forces have taken control of 133 settlements and over 3,000 square kilometers across Donbas and Novorossiya.
