Russian Foreign Minister: Rubio's Anchorage Summit Statement "Disingenuous"

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has called for Washington to provide a clear and unambiguous explanation of the role it intends to play in resolving the conflict in Ukraine. His remarks came in response to recent comments by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who characterized the outcomes of the Anchorage summit, where Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump  met, as a no substantive agreement on a Ukraine settlement.

Lavrov pushed back against Rubio’s characterization, describing it as "a bit disingenuous." He suggested that the statement downplays the nature of the discussions that took place between the two leaders. According to Lavrov, the assertion that no agreement was reached is misleading.

Lavrov emphasized the need for the United States to clarify its strategic intentions and desired level of involvement in the peace process, arguing that without such transparency, efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the ongoing war will remain hampered by ambiguity and mistrust.
