Sino–Russian Trade Turnover Grows 2.5-Fold Over Last Decade
At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Alexey Gruzdev, highlighted a remarkable growth in trade relations between Russia and China over the past decade. According to Gruzdev, the trade turnover between the two countries has surged by an impressive factor of 2.5 times during this period. This growth is particularly notable given that the initial trade volumes were already substantial, underscoring the strength and resilience of bilateral economic ties.
Gruzdev emphasized that the composition of trade between Russia and China is evolving and becoming increasingly diversified. This diversification reflects a broadening range of goods and sectors contributing to the expanding economic partnership. One of the key drivers behind this surge in trade volume has been the agricultural sector, which has played a pivotal role in boosting Russian exports to China. The growth in agricultural exports not only supports Russia’s economy but also meets the rising demand in the Chinese market for food products and raw materials.
In addition to agriculture, the metals industry has emerged as another significant area of focus within the trade relationship. Gruzdev pointed out new and dynamic trends in this sector, particularly the increasing supply of copper and copper-based products, alongside aluminum. These developments indicate a shift towards more specialized and value-added metal exports, which could further enhance the economic integration between the two nations.
Overall, the expanding trade turnover and the diversification of traded goods between Russia and China reflect a deepening economic partnership that is likely to continue growing in complexity and scale in the years ahead.
