Yemeni Forces (Houties) Strike Saudi Aramco Facilities as Iran’s Parliament Speaker Says Hormuz Will Remain Closed Until Conditions Are Met
Yemen’s armed forces said they carried out a missile and drone attack on facilities belonging to Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia’s state-controlled oil company Aramco, in Riyadh. The attack was carried out in response to intensified Saudi strikes on Sana’a and other Yemeni provinces.
General Yahya Saree, spokesperson for Yemen’s armed forces, said on Sunday that the operation had successfully achieved its objectives. He claimed that the missiles struck the targeted sites directly and accurately, casing huge fires.
The attack came as Houthi forces reported taking control of the al-Safiya area and cutting a major road linking Taiz with Aden. The move reportedly disrupted the movement of Saudi-backed forces in the area and give Houthis full control of area, AFP reported.
Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until Iran’s conditions are met. He reaffirmed Iran’s opposition to what he described as US coercion, saying that the era of attrition warfare and imposing one-sided demands on Iran had ended.
“The Americans, who have publicly expressed one position through the media, have recently been submitting proposals through mediators. However, they must understand that the era of attrition and imposing one-sided demands is over,” Qalibaf said.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s position is clear and unequivocal: the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until all seven conditions outlined in the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding are fulfilled.”
